Sr. Claire Perreault
June 10, 1923 – April 16, 2011
Sister Claire Perreault (Sr. Jules-Marie) died peacefully at Jocelyn House, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Saturday, April 16, 2011.
Sister Claire Perreault was born in Saint-Pierre-Jolys Manitoba on June 10, 1923 and lived a happy childhood with two brothers and five sisters. She joined the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in Outremont, Quebec on July 24, 1944 and made her perpetual vows on August 5, 1951.
Sister Claire spent the first 25 years of her religious life in teaching positions. In the latter part of her life she was able to live out fully a passion that had been hers for years, to be in solidarity with the poor and the least loved. She started by accepting a position as chaplain at Stony Mountain Penitentiary, and later moved on to a new ministry close to where she lived, Main Street, where she visited people, offering them compassion and responding to their needs. Sister Claire was a regular volunteer at Stony Mountain and she also volunteered at House of Hesed and Holy Names House of Peace.
Sister Claire was preceded in death by her father, Alfred and her mother, Cléophée Larivière; her sisters Maria, Eugénie, Donalda, Emma; her brothers Jules and Ulysses. She leaves in mourning her sister Jeanne Garand, many nephews and nieces and the members of her religious order.
